Every nation has a flag. Every flag has its own history and meaning and what it stands for. It is crucial to know a little about where you live or where you decide on visiting. So in this new series on Knowing Ghana, We are going to be sharing our knowledge on certain historical events, Ghanaian cultures, food, and the people who helped build the nation Ghana. Who Designed The Ghana Flag?

The Ghana flag was designed by a Ghanaian stateswoman, artist, and teacher Known as Theodosia Okoh. Theodosia Salome Abena Kumea Asihene also played a leading role in the development of hockey in Ghana. Theodosia was born in Effiduase which is the capital town of Sekyere East, a district in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. After Ghana gained its independence from the British, a need for a new national flag was advertised. Theodosia submitted her design, which was chosen as the national flag of Ghana by the country’s first president Kwame Nkrumah from 6 March 1957. Theodosia Okoh was the first female chairman of the Ghana Hockey Association and later President of the Ghana Hockey Federation for more than 20 years. She Died in April 2015 at the age of 92. Colours of The Ghana Flag

Ghana’s national flag consists of the Pan-African colours (The term Pan-African colours can refer to two sets of three colours) red, gold, and green, in horizontal stripes, with a black five-pointed star in the centre of the gold stripe.

Meaning of The Ghana Flag
