Black Star Line Festival Accra Ghana Event
Cultural exchange between continents is at the heart of the Black Star Line Festival of Pan-African Art.The festival is a week-long series of activities beginning January 6, 2023, at Black Star Square in Accra, Ghana, and featuring panel talks, fine art exhibitions, and nightlife events. The festival was founded by Ghanaian-American rapper Vic Mensa and Black-American artist Chance The Rapper.
The festival is a global celebration of black culture and will feature artists, philosophers, and significant people from all over the world. The Black Star Line Festival was created to serve as a symbol of freedom for all African people, from the continent to the Americas to the islands to Europe and beyond, in the spirit of Kwame Nkrumah’s groundbreaking Independence Speech.
At a time when the worldwide African is transforming rapidly and Ghana is acting as a gateway to the continent, we imagine a radical diasporic junction of music, thinking, and creation.
The founders aim is to bring together all persons of African heritage and restore the family ties severed by the transatlantic slave trade. We, as African-American artists, often show our work in Europe ten times before setting foot on the continent itself. The Black Star Line Festival aims to bridge the gap between African-American artists and their peers around the world by bringing them together for a week of dialogue and collaboration.
The Black Star Line Festival celebrates the 100th anniversary of Marcus Garvey’s Black Star Line shipping enterprise, which set sail in an effort to bridge the gap between humanity by sea.
