I happen to come across Kwame Awuku’s Youtube channel a couple of years ago from an interview I watched on another well-known Asian Youtuber’s channel (I can’t recall his name). Anyways, in the interview, Kwame Awuku, a Ghanaian Malaysian-based Data analyst explained what his work is all about and how he is able to make over $150,000 a year working remotely.

What is a data analyst?
According to Kwame, a data analyst is someone who takes the data of a company to help them make better decisions. For example, If a company has a product and they are looking to find the best products that will fit their ideal customer, they go in for the help of a data analyst to assist them to do so.
By extracting data from the company and using some business intelligence tools, A data analyst can help the company make decisions around those products and customers.
When asked about the projects and companies he has worked with, He mentioned how he worked for a wine company that had different stores in different locations and needed help in finding the best product mix for the best type of customers.
He also mentioned how the company’s main worry was to be able to find the best type of wine for each location. So basically the company needed a data analyst to help them know the type of wine each location would want.
“The most important thing when you are a data analyst is to approach every project from five to six key areas” – Kwame Awuku.
How to become a good data analyst
- Look at the product
- Look at the customer’s demographics
- Look at what the company wants to measure
- Look at the pricing of the product
